Heavy Metal Band Uses Traditional Tribal Instruments

Mongolia is a landlocked country in East Asia best known for its vast landscapes and beautiful scenery. The country is also known for its long songs, overtone singing, and morin khuur – the horse-headed fiddle.

Music is an integral part of Mongolian culture. They are very proud of their original sound and to keep their legacy, folk metal band called The Hu, combined the traditional Mongolian music with western heavy metal sounds. With their unique sound, the band gained global attention and earned fans from around the world.

Recently, The Hu shared their music videos of their two tracks, Yuve Yuve Yu and Wolf Totem, on YouTube and in just 3 months, both videos have accumulated over 10 million views.

They introduce to the world their own genre which they called “Hunnu Rock,” a mix of heavy metal-style pounding bass with traditional Mongolian folk instruments.

“We wanted to come up with our own thing that we can offer to this big music family. Make something new,” band member Dashka told My Modern Met. They never expected to gain internet fame for their epic sound. “We try to spiritually express this beautiful thing about Mongolian music. We think we will talk to everyone’s soul through our music. But we didn’t expect this,” guitarist Temka said.
