Journalist Showcases the Colorful Ceilings of Mumbai Taxis

If you ever find yourself riding a taxi in Mumbai, the second-most populous city in India, don’t forget to look up. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by all sorts of colorful ceilings that will make you ride just a bit more enjoyable.

Mumbai is home to more than 58,000 metered taxis and almost each of them features plastic or vinyl coverings that are aimed to protect delicate fabrics of the car’s interior. The covers are subject to the driver’s preference, so you will hardly ever come across the same one even if you take these taxis each day. Just ask Hindustan Times’ journalist Rachel Lopez.

Lopez frequently uses Mumbai taxis due to the nature of her work, which gave her a chance to come across all sorts of interesting patterns featured on taxi ceilings. After coming across one chocolate and strawberries-inspired background in 2017, she liked it so much that she decided to take a selfie.

In the following months, Lopez continued taking selfies beneath these colorful ceilings before eventually deciding to post some of them on social media. After overwhelmingly positive reactions from her Twitter and Instagram followers, she continued her project and recently even had an exhibition at Mumbai’s famed street festival Kala Ghoda Arts.

Check out some of her unique selfies below.
