Serpil Ümit’s Paintings Capture Glass in the Most Poetic Light

Artists can find inspiration in the most unusual of places, and Serpil Ümit’s body of work is a case in point. This Turkish artist made a name for herself with watercolor paintings that present bottles and glasses in the most poetic light.

Ümit got her master’s degree in painting from Mimar Sinan University, Faculty of Fine Arts in Istanbul, Turkey, where she also pursued a PhD.

“Painting has been an indispensable passion and love for me since my childhood. I’ve tried to scribble on every blank white paper I come across, and I’m still doing this. Painting in watercolor is a very interesting experience and I have a lot of fun doing it, having a great time. I still have a lot to experience,” Ümit explains on her Saatchi Art page.

Ümit has been on her artistic journey for decades, and she eventually decided to focus on a pretty unusual subject – objects made of glass. This was the best decision she’d ever made because it allowed her to display the fullness of her artistic talent while capturing such transparent objects as glasses, bottles, bowls, and more.

Ümit’s signature glass paintings helped her become a true sensation on social media, and her Instagram page @umitserpil_ is now followed by over 100,000 people.
