Trying to find a way to deal with his social anxiety, artist
Calvin Ma decided to start off a series of ceramic sculptures that represent an
intriguing mesh of human and bird characteristics.
These sculptures reflect the “fight or flight” struggles of people with social anxiety with each piece being connected with one of Ma’s social anxiety-related experience.
“I never really felt comfortable in my own skin in social settings, so I created these characters to help tell stories about it,” said Ma in his recent chat with Colossal. “Each piece is meant to act out a specific social anxiety-related experience. I try not to get too dark or serious with the work and really try to have fun with it.”
Ma’s sculptures quickly gained attention in the art world, and are becoming increasingly attractive to collectors. Check out some of them below.
