This Tinder-Inspired App Helps Dogs Find Their Future Owners

GetPet is a mobile app that helps homeless animals find new friends and people to find a pet that fits them.

The app aims to promote social responsibility, create an emotionally healthier community and nurture people’s responsibility, both by raising existing animals and by taking animals from their homes. Through this device, people will be reminded that animal adoption in the family is a responsible step and should be taken seriously, allowing people to check whether they can carry such responsibility or are prepared for it.

The process is similar to the famous dating app Tinder: to show your love, swipe right; no love at first sight, swipe left. Then, you can open your favorite’s list and select one or more pets you would like to bring home and share your love with.

The GetPet idea came about during Hack4Vilnius Hackathon, as a social initiative by a group of seven volunteers. “For a long time while taking care of homeless animals and helping animal shelters I could only dream about a modern tool to solve most relevant animal welfare issues in Lithuania. Now I am happy, that it unexpectedly came true, all because of our enthusiastic team, which voluntarily gathered their skills and power to create GetPet project and make it happen,” team member Asta Zaiceva Stalmakova said.

The GetPet was released on Jan. 17, 2019 and successfully reached over 5k people with mobile phones.
