Most of us use cameras or smartphones to capture moments from our travels. However, Toronto, Canada-based artist Adrienna Matzeg decided she wanted to immortalize the memories of her recent trip to Portugal in a more unique way.
Matzeg recently shared a new series of punch needle artworks titled Bebidas e Lanches (Drinks and Snacks) that showcase her travel moments through colorful needles. The series consists of punch needle depictions of restaurant fronts, snapshots of meals, and portrayals of various food and drinks.
Each artwork is framed by a negative space, making it look like a piece of a puzzle or a part of a larger scene that the viewer can only complete in their imagination.
“My newest series, “Bebidas e Lanches,” captures the essence of hot Portuguese afternoons, reflecting on the connection and joy that come from sharing drinks and snacks with others,” Matzeg shared about the series. “There is such a rich culture surrounding food in Portugal that I discovered while traveling. This became a jumping off point for the work.”
Matzeg’s Bebidas e Lanches series is currently live at Toronto’s Tacit Collective, an online art gallery and consultancy dedicated to female artists. You can also check out these works on social media or by scrolling below.
