Artist Created Jewelry That Doesn’t Allow People to Be Recognized By Technology

NOMA is the creation of two brilliant people, artists Ewa Nowak and Jarosław Markowicz from Warsaw, Poland. According to their personal website, Nowak is interested in “widely understood experiments with materials used in industry” and loves designing jewelry, while Markowicz is “passionate about motorization and new technologies” and is designing various types of equipment and vehicles, as well as objects for urban space.

Nowak created a sculptural metal jewelry line that helps wearers avoid being tracked by facial recognition technology.  She was feeling uneasy about the global state of privacy, so she created Incognito. The project was tested by Facebook’s DeepFace algorithm to see if it worked.

The jewelry is worn like glasses, and the two round pieces of metal cover each cheek, while an elongated piece extends upward between the eyes. The project also won the Mazda Design award at the Łódź Design Festival.
