Cake piping bags are an amazing tool in a bakery, allowing pastry chefs to turn desserts into works of art. However, as it turns out, their application isn’t just limited to treats.
Alea Pinar Du Pre is an Austrian/Turkish painter who uses cake piping bags in her art practice. She fills the bags with slabs of acrylic paint and then meticulously applies them to canvas to create portraits of women.
Thanks to this unique type of paint application, Du Pre’s works come out somewhat distorted, creating a captivating effect that is reminiscent of vintage TV screens.
Du Pre, who started her art journey in 2008, has been engaged in various other art forms, including works in which she combines digital art with “the real world.” Her pieces have been featured in solo and group shows across the world, including the United States, the UK, Austria, Belgium, France, and Turkey.
“My endless questioning the nature of our existence stems from an insatiable curiosity and an unfathomable love for truth. I believe in the sacredness of the human experience. Art is a canvas to mutate my curiosity into a form I can share – to transfer scientific curiosity into pictures – to give form to the formless,” Du Pre explains on her official website.
