Artist Has Been Crocheting Chinese Zodiac Animals For 10 Years

Stephanie, the artist behind Ami, which is short for ‘amigurumi’, the Japanese art of knitted or crocheted stuffed animals, began her crocheting journey when she was only 10 years old, and rediscovered her passion as an adult. She launched her blog in 2011 and began what is now a tradition in which every year she and her husband design the zodiac animal for that year and share the pattern with everyone.

8 years ago on this very day, I published my first blog post entitled “And so it begins…”. I remember being so excited to hit that publish button on tumblr as I had always wanted to start a blog! ❤️ I was so excited to share my love of amigurumi and crochet with the world, and my first two commenters were Ryan @gunpla_enthusiast and my sister Ashley haha. I was deliberating about a suitable blog name and chose “All About Ami” since it was all about amigurumi back then- I did not anticipate that people would presume my name was Ami (it’s okay though- I answer to that name too now haha 😆)! . Even though not many people were reading my blog back then, I kept diligently publishing my projects and even my very first original design as pictured here: the Chinese New Year Doll! ✨ I knew that even if no one was reading my blog, I was having so much fun crocheting and doing it for the joy of it- my blog could serve as my journal so I could look back upon what I was working on. I honestly thought I would run out of steam or grow tired of blogging a couple months or years in, and I am so thankful that our community has grown and that we are still blogging and loving it! I think that’s what happens when you find something you absolutely love doing and brings you life 💗🧶. No matter when you joined us on this journey, I want to say thank you! Thank you for visiting my blog, making my designs, purchasing my PDF patterns, leaving comments and always providing so much feedback and support! Crochet and knit designing and blogging encompass so much of what I love doing, and I’m so thankful to God that I was able to discover this non-conventional path and field 🙏🏻! . People are asking if there will be an amigurumi pig this year for Chinese New Year, and the answer is yes! As long as we are still blogging, our goal is to complete the zodiac amigurumi series 💪🏻! Can’t believe it will be our 8th one! We are thankful for this 8 Year Blogiversary and will be showing our piggy soon ☺️❤️🐷

“These ‘amigurumi’ designs have inspired people to learn how to crochet as it is so empowering and rewarding being able to make something so cute with your own two hands from scratch,” the artist shared on Bored Panda. “Even though everyone follows the same pattern, each ‘amigurumi’ turns out differently with so much character as everyone has their own style and can add their own details.”

Stephanie shares patterns and images of finished products on her personal blog, Instagram and Etsy store. If you want to start your own crocheting journey, check her out, and follow her for future updates.
