Several years ago, former U.S. President Barack Obama started sharing end-of-the-year lists of his favorite songs, movies, and books. He decided to continue with the tradition towards the end of 2018 as well and presented his favorites on social media.

“As 2018 draws to a close, I’m continuing a favorite tradition of mine and sharing my year-end lists.” – wrote Obama in an Instagram post. “It gives me a moment to pause and reflect on the year through the books, movies, and music that I found most thought-provoking, inspiring, or just plain loved. It also gives me a chance to highlight talented authors, artists, and storytellers – some who are household names and others who you may not have heard of before.”

According to his list, in 2018 Obama mostly listened to rap and R&B music, mentioning tracks from Cardi B, Chance the Rapper, Janelle Monáe, and others. When it comes to movies, some of the features he liked include Black Panther, Leave no Trace and Shoplifters. Finally, the books that former U.S. President enjoyed reading include American Prison by Shane Bauer and Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe.
