Many plant lovers have a special place in their hearts for terrariums, and that’s certainly the case with Bria Singer of Velvet Forest Terrariums. She’s an artist from Columbus, who’s using all sorts of everyday objects to create one-of-a-kind terrariums that hold tiny worlds inside them.
Singer is based in Columbus, Ohio, and she embarked on quite a journey after graduating from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2019. She explored many different art forms, but finally felt like something clicked when she started making terrariums in 2021 and discovered the meditative power of working with plants.
“Creating these little worlds gives me such a sense of control. It’s an art form that truly sends me into a flow, or as my high school art teacher used to call it, “right-brain space”… When you stop feeling the time pass, escape the thought loops that plague your mind, and you’re fully experiencing the present,” she wrote on Instagram.
Singer is a huge believer that terrariums can thrive in any environment and the list of vessels she used to build these tiny worlds is pretty impressive. They’re built from everything from wine glasses and butter dishes to teapots and cookie jars, and she often looks for unique vessels at local thrift stores to give her terrariums a retro feel.
