Paul Cocksedge is a designer with an amazing idea. He created the most amazing bench that could completely change the typical outdoor design of cities.
Cocksedge’s bench is made of wood shaped like a spiral, undulating all the way. It looks like it came from space, and its design could really make a strong impact on the outdoor lifestyle. Not only would it change the looks of outdoor public furniture, but it would also influence the way we socialize outside. There is a difference in sitting on a bench made for two and sitting on this enormous, spiral bench.
Cocksedge created this installation as part of the London Design Festival and it’s called Please Be Seated. Its point is to invite people to walk under and sit on it.
The artist carefully examined the space and how it was used by the public and he wanted to create something that fits well by its looks but also has maximum functionality. This bench occupies the square without blocking it. People can take a rest, search for shadow, sit and chat, and also -walk under it.
Cocksedge hopes that his installation will impact the way people think about public spaces and wood plans.
