Artist Mike Willcox creates simplistic illustrations, graphic novels, tapestries, and tarot decks that often feature surreal symbols. The artist told It’s Nice That that he’s inspired by “existing, healing, growing, love, romance, wind, storms, history, plants, life – all kinds of things,” and his style is influenced by art deco style.
This talented multidisciplinary artist has had many different jobs in the past before completely committing to art. He creates pieces that have clear subjects and also pieces that are more abstract, focusing on shapes, colors, and lines that end up resembling overlapping objects.
“I’ll have a vague idea of colour and a small piece of a figure I can’t quite make out stuck in my head, and I’ll have to make it,” he says. Some of his paintings come from his dreams or meditations, places where he often draws inspiration.
