Google’s New Game Challenges You to Spot Art Created by AI

Do you think you can easily distinguish AI art from art made by humans? Well, there is a way to put that to the test. Google recently introduced a highly entertaining game called Odd One Out that requires the player to spot art made by artificial intelligence.

The game, developed by Caroline Buttet and Emmanuel Durgoni from Google Arts & Culture Lab, presents players with four similarly-themed artworks. Three of them are sourced from Google’s Arts and Culture collection, and one is created by AI. Your goal is to find an AI intruder before the time runs out.

While it may sound simple, the task is actually much more difficult. This is why the game gives you four lives before it restarts, and believe us when we say you’ll need each one. You can test your skills by clicking here.

Sometimes, there are obvious clues that the art was made by AI, like a futuristic style, odd shapes, or an over-polished look. But other times, it is almost impossible to single out the artificial intelligence work.

Odd One Out is part of Google’s project to develop “AI-powered ways to play with arts and culture.”

“The starting point for these new experiments was applications of Google AI Image Generation Research to inspire cultural discovery and learning through play,” Google says about the game.
