Playing with sand is something that is usually considered a creative outlet for kids. But Italian artist Leonardo Ugolini is showing that anyone can, and should enjoy this fun activity.
Ugolini is one of the world’s most famous sand artists thanks to his ability to create incredibly detailed works. This includes large-scale sand sculptures inspired by various themes including architecture, animals, and pop culture.
Ugolini’s pop culture-inspired sand art introduced him to large audiences, especially on social media. So far, he has created Tower of Mordor from the Lord of the Rings film franchise, SpongeBob’s pineapple house, a large piece showcasing characters from the popular anime One Piece, and many more.
While Ugolini has been creating sand sculptures for the past three decades, he actually became famous just several years ago. During the pandemic, he decided to create a TikTok profile and showcase some of his works and the process that goes into making them. It didn’t take a while for one of his videos to turn viral, and he now amassed a following of 1.7 million while his videos collectively received 31.6 million likes.
