Artist Transforms a Thrift Store Painting into “What We Do in the Shadows” Portrait

Artist Tyler Turnbull is a big fan of the popular vampire comedy TV show What We Do in the Shadows. But besides enjoying its lighthearted and funny nature, the show also provided Turnbull with inspiration for a cool project.

Turnbull recently visited his local thrift store and stumbled on an old painting of a couple that immediately made him think of his favorite show. He bought the painting, brought it to his studio, and transformed it into What We Do in the Shadows portrait showing its main character, Nadja of Antipaxos, and her husband, Laszlo Cravensworth.

The painting proved so perfect for the project that Turnbull only needed to paint Nadja and Laszlo’s faces to achieve the desired effect.

Turnbull documented the entire process in a video shared on social media while also making prints of the modified painting available on his webshop.

TikTok users loved the idea, with fellow What We Do in the Shadows flocking to the comments section to share their praise for Turnbull. Many of them also immediately placed an order for the print so they don’t miss out on such fun art.

“Immediately ordered. Love your art. LOVE this show,” one TikTok user wrote.

“Honestly might buy a print and I never buy anything. Saved to think about it. Your art is so fun!,” another added.
