Toy company Mattel and creative studio MSCHF have teamed up for an unexpected “Hot Wheels” release. The two companies created a parody of the popular brand of scale model cars with “Not Wheels”.
You know how Hot Wheels toy cars are polished, detailed, and cool? Well, Not Wheels car is anything but that. It represents a nod to run-down cars and looks like it belongs on a junkyard.
The Mattel and MSCHF’s collaboration is a generic model that has rusty grey paint and blue back doors, which definitely came from another car. It also features only three wheels, all of which are mismatched, ensuring it doesn’t run. Among other touches are a cracked windshield, cringy stickers, bad patchwork, and a hanging seat belt.
The packaging of the Not Wheels also features a number of cool phrases like “CINDER BLOCK NOT INCLUDED!” and “NOT TOTALLED YET.”
According to Mattel, the release is homage to a “beat-up but reliable car that many drivers start off with” and inspired by early 1990s imports from Japan.
“Thoroughly dented, rusted, and amateurly repaired, our Not Wheels car proudly shows off both how hard it’s been driven and how much it’s been loved,” Mattel said in a press release.
Not Wheels car will be available on Mattel’s official website at a price of $30.
