Even if you are not a fan of grunge legends Nirvana, there is a chance you are familiar with the famous “wobbly” smiley face that the band often used as its logo. The smiley face, created by the group’s late frontman Kurt Cobain, has been featured on Nirvana’s albums, posters, T-shirts, and all sorts of merch.
Now, the watchmaker Nixon decided to take Nirvana’s smiley face as an inspiration for their newest watch design.
The NIRVANA SENTRY WOBBLE watch comes with a crocked watch face that mimics the shape of the smiley while sporting its depiction on the dial and crown. There is also an all-black version of the watch that is limited to 152 units.
“Your eyes are not playing tricks on you … Nixon’s iconic mid-size analog watch has been bent, molded, and contorted to match Cobain’s hand-drawn iconic smile graphic found on the dial and crown,” Nixon said of the watch. “The face pops with depth and detail, and the solid stainless steel case, hardened mineral crystal, and waterproof rating of 50m allow for everyday use.”
Nixon also released two more watches inspired by Nirvana. The first one is a modification of Nixon’s Time Teller model with Nirvana lettering and a smaller smiley face on the dial.
The second is a modification of the Sentry model with a polarizing sun-ray dial and “NIRVANA” as the indices.
