Going vegan is easier said than done, mostly because easy and budget-friendly recipes are pretty hard to find. Sam Turnbull learned that the hard way after deciding to embrace a plant-based diet, but she decided to roll up her sleeves and develop hundreds of comforting and beginner-friendly vegan recipes.
Being a vegan didn’t come naturally for Turnbull, who grew up surrounded by chefs, butchers, and hunters. Her love for animals eventually forced her to start rethinking her diet, and the documentaries Vegucated and Forks Over Knives gave her a push in the right direction.
Despite her determination, embracing a vegan diet was quite a struggle at first. Most recipes she came across were too complicated and featured overpriced ingredients, so Turnbull decided to start working on her own.
“Not only were my new creations satisfying, hearty, full of flavor, and straight-up delicious, but they were just as easy to make as any other meal. With limitation came inspiration, and before I knew it, going vegan had become one of the best decisions I’d ever made!” she wrote on her official website.
This was a turning point for Turnbull, whose vegan food blog It Doesn’t Taste Like Chicken has been going strong for a full decade. She attracted 200,000 followers to her Instagram page and published several cookbooks, including Craving Vegan.
