“Crazy plant lady” may not seem like a compliment, but Samantha Hermann would probably disagree. Her Instagram page House + Plant was born out of her desire to help other plant lovers take the best care possible of their home gardens.
Hermann grew up surrounded by women who enjoyed tending their gardens and houseplants and learned a lot from them over the years. She started her own plant journey with a little golden pothos, which her mom sent with her to college.
Hermann’s golden pothos followed her everywhere she went, from her college dorms to two different apartments and homes. It grew and bloomed alongside Hermann—and so did the rest of her plant collection. She went on to take care of 200+ plants over the years and learned everything she knows today through extensive trial and error.
Hermann’s own journey also made her realize that plant parenthood can be pretty frustrating in the beginning and decided to use the power of social media to share her knowledge with the world.
“I’m excited to use this creative outlet to help others on their own plant journey. So many of us have bought plants during quarantine and feel overwhelmed with the amount of information. We can all learn together,” she wrote on her official website.
