Shawna X’s Artwork is Otherworldly

It’s hard to put your finger on Shawna X’s artwork. Sprawled across various mediums and setting, including 3D paintings, illustrations, murals, and installations, her work is vibrant and colorful to the max.

“My work is often a result of personal musings in metaphysics and a simplicity in daily life through the filter of my subjective visceral experience, in which I communicate both visually and in speaking engagements,” she writes on her personal website.

Inspired by poetry by Richard Brautigan, Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera, and Italian Radical Design, she describes her style as “pretty carefree and eclectic.” It’s that carefree eclecticism that has caught the attention of giants like Adidas, Adobe, Ghostly International, and New Yorker.

Moving from China to the US at the age of 7, X’s relationship with art had begun early on. Speaking with the Dr. Martens Blog, she said: “I draw a lot of confidence from what I wear, what I draw, what I listen to, or who I connect with.”

Brace yourselves!
