]]>Cook shared a video on his YouTube channel showing how he carved a toucan out of a single block of ice in just two hours. The footage, which is time-lapsed at 1:36 minutes, is impressive to watch.
According to Cook, the footage was captured at an ice festival in Fort Saint John as part of a quick carve competition.
Ryan Cook was introduced to the world of carving in 2012 while appearing as an apprentice on the TV show Saw Kings. He later appeared on Netflix’s reality series Carver Kings, where his talent was on full display.
Cook is now traveling the world and making amazing sculptures as part of carving competitions. When he’s not competing, he is working on commissions and personal projects at his home studio in Vancouver. ]]>Salvo had the opportunity to make art his life calling when he was in high school, being offered a fine arts scholarship from a “prominent East Coast University”. But he decided to take a different path back then, choosing to focus on his skills for business and the engineering sciences. He started working at NASA and went on to have a successful entrepreneurial career. But despite this, he never left art completely.
While building his career, Salvo was doing art on the side and realized there was a strong interest in his works after collectors started inquiring about ways to acquire his pieces. This prompted him to dedicate more time to sculpting and painting.
While Salvo expresses his creative vision in various media, previously mentioned metal butterflies escaping frames and canvases are among his most recognizable works. According to the artist, these 3D sculptures “capture the subtleties and interplay of light and shadow to create and amplify the tension between simplicity and complexity.”

]]>Her pieces, light-catching and luminous, take after natural forms, with her glass objects including butterflies and moths, as well as plants, each delicately made using the Tiffany technique. “When I began working independently, I started with small suspended pieces,” she recalled in an interview with the Etsy blog, “but I wanted to take the idea of hassle-free installation even further and create something where people wouldn’t need to worry about nails or drilling holes in walls.”
After a lot of musing, she came up with an idea for how to neatly attach a stained-glass piece to a brass bar. She then achieved an independent object that could easily be brought into peoples’ homes. Her work also requires special precision which Zaycman ties to her math studies at university. “I appreciate the precision and clarity of exact sciences, and I like how they require perseverance and intense concentration,” she notes. “Having an understanding of geometry is useful in calculating complex shapes.”
Working primarily with glass, it is important for Zaycman to judge the quality of her materials beforehand. “I measure the quality of the glass not only visually, checking for color and cleanliness—or the lack of any extra coating—but also by touching,” she says. “Glass should be pleasant and smooth. For some exotic colors, it’s challenging to find pieces that fit these requirements. I usually purchase glass and other materials in specialized shops in Saint Petersburg, but sometimes it’s necessary to go to Finland if it’s impossible to find something in my city.”

]]>“I empty my mind when I’m sculpting the human faces. I might plan the pottery shape and maybe where I’d like to position the face, but I don’t start with specific character designs in mind,” Yanting told Neocha.
Through the expressions on his ceramics, the artist gives his audience a chance to draw their own conclusions about the emotions behind them. He’s fascinated by the fact that certain sculptures remind people of someone they know and associate with certain emotions based on that, so one piece can be seen in a different way by different people.

]]>“Creations from man-made objects discarded as refuse and reinterpreted to form objects found in nature are the inspirations for my art,” he states on his website. “The simple spoon forms the body of a rainbow trout; a discarded children’s toy becomes the foundation for a moose; horseshoes transform into armadillos.”
Consisting of primarily wood or metal, the reclaimed objects are transformed from their mechanized human intentions into organic figures found in nature. “I look for these shapes buried within objects,” Lyons further explained in a piece he wrote for Artsy Shark. “I then utilize these shapes and reinterpret them into the anatomical structures that make up the organic sculptures I create.”
According to Lyons, through his inherent passion for the discarded object, he has developed a unique perspective and talent to visually dissect, reinterpret and then repurpose the materials found in his sculptures. “I look for the potential in every object to be a valuable contributor to the sculptures I create,” he says.
Because, ultimately, who’s to say if a spoon handle isn’t actually a bird’s wing waiting to take flight?

]]>With his work, he tries to evoke the absurdity found in mundane actions of everyday life. When creating his art, Wurm says, he creates his sculptures intuitively believing that “it is better to go where the material and the ideas lead me, rather than to follow any predetermined strategy.”
“The common thread is the idea of the human body and its relation to sculptural concerns,” the artist shared in an interview with Design Broom. “The One Minute Forever sculptures, for example, address ideas around time and permanence associated with sculpture. There are additionally abstracted forms meant to translate realistic bodily parts, for example, tennis balls which serve as a stand-in for eyes.”
Living and working in Vienna and Limberg, Wurm’s work has been exhibited in galleries worldwide and published in various media. He also shares images on his Instagram account, so if you got interested, just keep on scrolling!

]]>The crystals are grown by her by creating a super-saturated solution of Borax in boiling water. “When water boils, its molecules expand,” she explained the scientific process that goes behind the scenes in an interview with Redefine Magazine. “I place the book in the saturated solution when hot and manipulate the book to my liking. As the saturated water cools again, the molecules shrink and any excess Borax crystallizes. Once the solution has completely cooled and the crystals have grown on the submerged objects, I drain the solution and dry the object without disturbing its shape. The objects will hold their new, transformed shape when completely dry.”
Arnold’s artwork aims to explore the perception and experience of light and color, the visual effects of time, various geologic processes, and the potential of the material. Addressing the theme of “materiality versus content,” her series raises questions about the palpable ways in which time (in it’s physical or visual presence) shapes our cultural experiences.
“The crystals remove the text and transform the books into aesthetic, non-functional objects,” points Arnold. “The books, now frozen with heavy crystal growth, have become artifacts or geologic specimens laden with the history of time, use, and nostalgia. The stories included in books often exist in our memories while the book remains a spine on a shelf. I love how just seeing a book can conjure the story contained within. With the addition of the crystal growth, the story within the book remains in memory, but new stories can be created by viewers as well.”

]]>His pillows perfectly mimic real pillows, and it’s difficult to believe they’re made from marble when you’re looking at the photos.
“Because of the material qualities of marble itself, it appears fragile. It’s quite fragile, but it’s not that fragile, and yet it appears so because of the translucency and pureness of the stone,” Fagerås told Sculpture Atelier in an interview. As he says, he intends to create an atmosphere more than a literal representation of something that already exists.

]]>He started his DIY journey back in 2019 when started experimenting with polymer clay sculpting, but he ran into some problems. However, despite all the difficulties, he still wanted to create his favorite characters.
“I learned more and more as time passed, from sculpting techniques to painting. I got to admit the painting is way more challenging for me, the most suitable paint for polymer clay is acrylic paints,” the artist shared on Bored Panda and added that he needs approximately one to two weeks to finish his artwork, depending on the complexity and the level of details.
“I always create characters that are interesting, unique or inspiring, some of them are maybe controversial but that means that I loved the movie.”

]]>Based in a 200-year-old French studio known for reproducing famous pieces of art, the artist was working on this project for about a year, gathering molds and scans of busts, sculptures and friezes and sculpting. “Making use of classical and ancient objects, this new body of work experiments with the timelessness of certain symbols,” Perrotin explained.
Each iconic European sculpture is surrounded by various graphite drawings representing the artist’s process in order to “compress time, at once referencing the past, informing the present, and reaching towards a crystallized future.”
