Meet Eric, a tiny Stormtrooper who escaped the exploding Death Star and somehow found himself on Earth, where he now rides a motorcycle, drinks whiskey, climbs mountains and plays the guitar. His life among us is captured by British photographer Darryll Jones, who has a special fondness for Star Wars action figures and shared on his Instagram account where thousands of fans of Star Wars tune in to see what’s next for the little plastic guy.
The expressionless, robot-like helmet of a Stormtrooper has been a symbol of the evil Empire ever since the first Star Wars movies came out.
In the movies, Stormtroopers never had distinct personalities or showed any emotion at all, but in Jones’ whimsical universe, Eric the Stormtrooper leads a vivid, fun life as an ex-space soldier set on a journey of self-exploration in a big world.
Jones poses Eric to create beautifully styled, surreal scenes that are often adorably funny and matches them with descriptions that reveal Eric’s feelings and experiences beneath the helmet. In his hands, the toy develops its own personality and gets his story told. “As long as what I am doing puts a smile on your face or evokes some kind of emotion, then I am happy,” says the photographer.
