The Artist Imagines a Future Where Nature Takes Control

Artist David Ambarzumjan created a collection of paintings called Brushstrokes in Time that features surreal scenes from past and present blended in one painting. His latest piece, named “Recover,” is a post-apocalyptic painting that shows the present and the future within the same frame.

The whimsical painting shows a city street at night, but harmony of the composition is cut off by another frame that features a family of deer at a field.

“I’m a big fan of post-apocalyptic stories, and I love to think about all the possible ways the world could look like if we suddenly perished away,” the artist told My Modern Met.

“The brushstroke represents a kind of medication to the skin of the planet. Inside, nature takes back control to a point where many people think that it shows the past rather than a possible future.”

Ambarzumjan worked on this piece for many months. After going back and forth with the composition, he’s happy with how the painting turned out in the end.

The results are impressive and you can take a look at Ambarzumjan’s work in the photos below.
