These Artists Prove That Fashion and Art Go Hand in Hand

Historically, fashion has rarely been recognized as a form of art. But fashion – diverse, expressive, and changing at a fast pace – can be much more than art. It’s a creative expression of one’s self, a pure form of individualism or lack thereof. It also doesn’t have to take itself too seriously. Here are three artists who seem to get it, incorporating fashion into their illustrations and paintings.

Anjelica Roselyn Dariah

Womenswear designer and fashion illustrator, Anjelica Roselyn Dariah, captures the essence of fashion with one brush stroke. Her loose illustration style has caught the attention of fashion icons like Pat McGrath, Marc Jacobs, Moschino, Jeremy Scott, and Anna Sui. As part of her work, Dariah also works as a live illustrator at fashion events. “I love live illustrating because you don’t have to overthink what you’re drawing – it’s very in the moment,” she told Freelance Wisdom.

Francesco Lo Iacono

Amongst his many clients, fashion illustrator, Francesco Lo Iacono, has worked for giants like Dior, Fendi, and JW Anderson. The Italian-born, London-based artist is known for his watercolor drawings, created using a vibrant color palette. His fashion illustrations have also been exposed during the second edition of DDessin, the contemporary drawing fair in Paris.

Ignasi Monreal

Spanish artist Ignasi Monreal employs both traditional techniques, such as oil painting, and digital ones, when creating his striking artworks, creating the perfect fusion of contemporary art with classical elements. His collaborations include brands such as Dior and Louis Vuitton; but his most famous campaign to date has been for Gucci, with his ads looking nothing short of works of art.
