#Trashtag: Finally, a Social Media Challenge That’s Worth the Hype

There are so many challenges on social media that it’s hard to keep track, but one challenge, in particular, is worth the hype. The #Trashtag challenge aims to help Mother Nature.

The challenge motivates individuals to clean up parks, streets, beaches and other public places that are filled with litter. Many people around the world are taking up the challenge and are sharing their achievements on social media.

To participate, take a photo of an area that needs some cleaning, then take another photo after you’ve done something about it. It’s a win-win situation: you win some virtual points with likes and shares, and Mother Nature wins some actual points.

According to My Modern Met, the #Trashtag challenge has been around for years. Outdoor lighting company UCO launched the #Trashtag Project in 2015 to encourage people to pick up litter in their everyday lives.

“We are stoked to see this initiative gaining some recent momentum,” the company wrote on Instagram after seeing the #Trashtag gaining popularity, “and hopefully others are inspired to do their part in keeping the great outdoors as it should be . . . CLEAN!”
