The Wondersmith is the pseudonym of this creative soul who adores baking for others and hosting free parties to strangers. But how to get into these fairy-tale-looking parties? Easily. You just need to discover the invitation the host has hidden in public places.

“I am constantly inspired by the beauty and bounty of the Pacific Northwest, which I hope is apparent in these baked treats!” Wondersmith explains. I love connecting with the natural world by carefully and respectfully foraging many of my ingredients.”

When Wondersmith can’t host gatherings, she shares the recipes of her threats through her blog and social media where her readers can enjoy the natural inspiration that flavors everything she does.

Smoked Mugwort Sour: this half-alcoholic cocktail is flavorful and enticing, the perfect way to ring in the new year! Here's the recipe: Ingredients: 1 oz. gin 1 1/2 oz meyer lemon juice 3 tsp. elderflower syrup (or sugar syrup) 1 egg white some mugwort and a lighter Directions: 1.Smoke the juice: place the lemon juice in a shallow dish under a medium glass bowl. Light the mugwort with the lighter and place inside the bowl so that the smoke is sealed in there. Let sit for about 10 minutes to infuse, then take the gin out and dissipate the smoke. 2. Mix the cocktail: in a cocktail mixer, combine the smoked lemon juice, gin, elderflower syrup, and egg white with some ice and shake vigorously. Pour into a rocks glass and put a dash of bitters on top of the froth. Garnish with a meyer lemon slice and some mugwort that you light on fire. The scent of the charred mugwort is an important part of the sensory experience of this cocktail that is both grounding and uplifting. ✨✨✨ I designed this recipe as part of a larger ritual for New Years that spans overnight. It was a great way to reflect and re-set last year. If you'd like to give it a try yourself this year, you can find it at theWondersmith.com/blog (just search for "New Years") Cheers to New Year's Eve's Eve! . ✨✨✨ . #wildcrafted #foraged #sourcocktail #smokedcocktail #wildfoodlove #cocktailrecipe #mugwort #wintercocktail #foragedcocktail #wildcraftedcocktail #wildcrafteddrink #nyecocktail #nyedrink #themagicofmugwort

This Stinging Nettle Moss Cake is one of my all-time favorite recipes. I love that it is naturally bright green due to the addition of cooked stinging nettle (which also lends lots of good nutrients to the cake as well.) Despite its green color, this cake doesn't taste like a salad – instead it tastes light and citrusy, with rich grapefruit-spruce buttercream. Yum. (And besides, it's incredibly easy to decorate.) It's my ode to the concept of "Moss Gazing," my Pacific Northwest take on the Japanese tradition of "Hanami," or "tree-blossom observing." Instead of reminding us of the frailty of life through ethereal blooms, moss reminds us of the constancy of life. If you're having trouble seeing the big picture, just look closer. I'm also really pleased to announce that this recipe and some of my other work are in the latest issue of @faeriemagazine, which is filled with Tolkien-esque magic from Hobbit Breakfasts to Elegant Elves. Pick up a copy today at your local bookstore. 🙂 You can also get the recipe for this stunning cake on my blog, thewondersmith.com/blog (link in profile.) I hope you are able to take some time this week to focus on the intricacies that fill you with wonder, from the sight of dewdrops on moss stalks to the flavor of something fresh and green. . ✨✨✨ . #faeriemagazine #wildfoodlove #fairy #faerie #magic #thewondersmith #misswondersmith #stingingnettle #magicfood #kitchenmagic #spring #moss #mossy #elven #elf #picnic #foraged #wildfood
