Artist Angela Mckay from Ohkii Studio loves to create artworks that inspire people to travel more often. After previously creating a series of works inspired by beach and summer holidays, she recently began a cool project that saw her capturing her travels as notebook paintings.
Instead of resorting to a camera as most tourists, Mckay opts to keep memories of her adventures in a pocket-size notebook. She fills it with scenes she comes across while traveling through Europe, exploring US national parks, and more.
These notebook paintings cover a wide range of subjects, ranging from landscapes to baskets of fruit and all other sights that end up capturing her attention. The artist frequently snaps a photo of the painting in front of the source of her inspiration as soon as it’s finished and then shares it with her social media followers.
Occasionally, Mckay also creates large-scale artworks while using her notebook paintings as a reference.
“Often when I’m traveling, I have this urgent feeling that I need to capture everything I’m experiencing, the sights, feelings, and textures of a place,” Mckay shared in a chat with Colossal. “ … I really enjoy the experience of looking at a painting and being transported back to that experience. It’s a nice way to escape from your day to day!”
