Artist Creates Paintings That Look Like They Came Straight Out of a Horror Movie

Craola is the pseudonym for artist Greg Simkins. The 44-years-old, California-born Simkins grew up surrounded by animals, mostly rabbits, which you can often see in his paintings. His artistic journey began when he was a little boy, at the age of three, when he was inspired by various cartoons and books.

At 18 the artist started doing graffiti under the name Craola which he still uses. While doing street art Simkins gained confidence and further developed his artistic skills, which later translated into his work with acrylics. In 1999 after he received his Bachelor’s Degree he began creating video games, but in 2005 he decided he would make painting his full-time job.

“I haven’t always liked stretching canvas and never thought I would be doing it on a regular basis but these days, it has become more of an adventure than a chore,” the artist shared with Bored Panda. “It is the sponge that soaks up all the thoughts going on in my head. Having an overactive imagination since a very young age, it has always made sense to me that any artwork I develop should be composed of these vivid thoughts.”
