Kathy Ager is an Amsterdam-based artist that recently captured the attention of the art world thanks to her original take on classical still life paintings.

Looked from afar, Ager’s paintings could be easily mistaken for work of classical Baroque painter as they are rich with elements like flowers, fruit, and pottery. But, when you look at them more closely, you’ll notice elements of the world we are living in today. That might be a pair of sneakers, a lighter or even a fanny pack.

“Both deeply personal and universal, they are cryptic messages directed towards the audience,” Angers says of the paintings on her official website.
