Artist Turns Eggshells Into Intricate Pieces of Art

Elisa Sheehan uses eggshells as her canvas, and she creates intricate pieces with the ancient art of Kintsugi. This old art form involves repairing cracked pottery using seams of gold. It has been the practice since the 15th century, and so many modern artists are using such practices to reimagine craft.

From a particular viewpoint, you cannot tell that egg shells were used as a canvas. This shows how amazing her artworks look. The artist describes the series as a representation of imperfection where flaws are seen as beautiful and celebrated. She found a way to protect the shells by covering them in abstract ink forms and delicate washes of paint. The shells are also coated with gold leaf, especially the cracked areas. This act mends the shells if they are fragile and makes them look more beautiful.
