Caro Arevalo’s Art Will Put You In a State of Meditation

Caro Arevalo’s art is strangely hypnotic, consisting of repeating shapes that are arranged in symmetrical patterns. Describing herself as a visionary artist from Peru living and working in Brooklyn NY, Arevalo embraces her Amazonian heritage, celebrating it through her ritualistic art.

“I embrace the importance of rituals and ancestral wisdom as they taught me that by observing nature we notice that there is no real separateness in-between beings and that the whole universe is connected,” she told the DUFMOD blog. “These are the building blocks of my artwork. “

With an emphasis on repetition and interconnection, her art is at a crossroads between equilibrium and chaos, vacuum and overflowing atmospheres. Using techniques such as cartography, acuity enhancement, and symmetrical repetition, she aims at making art that is also meditative – a process which she documents on her YouTube page.

Inspired by both micro and the macro worlds she uses dots to represent the smallest expressions of existence, and then, by endlessly repeating these dots, proves how we can build huge worlds from miniature constructs.

“I love being able to work from wherever I want,” she says. “If traveling or going to the beach I can take my studio with me. I also love being able to focus on paintings that resemble the current theme I am obsessed about, and not having to follow other people’s agendas. The worst part is I am still learning how to stop working, as nature is what inspires me I sometimes feel a necessity to paint all the time, but I have found that stopping to just rest or gaze is so helpful too.”
