Felicia Chiao is an illustrator and industrial designer who creates whimsical illustrations populated by humanoid spirit-like characters. Her style resembles Hayao Miyazaki’s work and we were drawn to it from the first time we saw it. The artist manages to balance a charming aesthetic with emotional themes in a seemingly effortless way.
“Illustration has always been a way for me to destress and work through whatever emotions I’m feeling,” Chiao tells This is Colossal. We can see what she means by that from the emotions that burst out of her art.
“I cannot stress how little I think about what goes into my drawings. I draw because I love doing it and most of the themes people have seen emerge have largely been subconscious,” she continues.
