Clym Evernden’s Art is a Blend of Fashion and Illustration

Award-winning artist and art director, Clym Evernden, is known for his loose fashion illustrations. A graduate of Central Saint Martins, Evernden studied BA Fashion Design Womenswear prior to working solely as an artist. Now a sought after creative, his signature ink-based style has evolved to encompass mixed media, animation, and set design.

“I have a very non-elitist approach to art,” Evernden stated in an interview with Regent Street Online, “so it doesn’t necessarily have to be something in a gallery or on a pedestal, it could be something on the street.”

Accordingly, his inspiration comes from everyday life in all its banality. “What has always excited me about it, like clothing, is that it can play a part of everyday life,” he said, explaining his love of art. “I love that it can be a sketch jotted on a post-it note, or a painting hanging in the National Gallery. I’m also excited by how it’s constantly evolving, aided by changes in how we consume, social media, etc.”

Evernden’s versatile observational skills mean that he can represent a broad range of themes, and find an inspired and engaging angle on his subject matter. So far, he has created artwork, animations and directed marketing campaigns for global brands such as Samsung, Louis Vuitton, Audi, Net-A-Porter, Moët Hennessy, and been published on a variety of platforms including television commercials and onsite installations.

His advice for other creatives? Put in the work. “The more work you put in, the more you get out, both in terms of self-satisfaction and client recognition, simple as that,” he says. “Nothing can be achieved instantly, and you have to let things grow and develop at their own speed without forcing things too much.”
