These Colorful Illustrations Are Made with a Limited Color Palette

Norwich, UK-based illustrator Tess Smith-Roberts is currently in her final year at Kingston School of Art. Her style is recognizable for the bold use of bright colors and simple compositions that tell stories.

“I try to approach my work with humor, bold shapes, and playful use of color. Everything is usually really bright with a stupid little smiley on it. Lately, I’m also really into adding stars to everything,” she said for It’s Nice That.

She mixes digital and analog techniques, but always prefers to hold pen and paper in hand than stare into the screen. She challenges herself by determining a limited color palette and experimenting with overlays in order to exercise creativity.
