Experience Italy Through Kimberly Cammerata’s Paintings

According to Italian painter Kimberly Cammerata nothing compares to the moments of la dolce vita which you can encounter in her birthplace. “In Italy life becomes epic,” she writes on her website. “Even a simple espresso in the piazza becomes an event.” And so, she decided to dedicate her life – both personally and professionally – to her beloved country and its brilliant landscapes, sunny days, and ancient towns.

Her watercolor paintings capture the light and richness of detail that have come to be associated with Italy. “Light and its effect on color is the essence of my work,” she writes. “The sunshine of Italy saturates and energizes everything it touches, making colors sing.”

According to Cammerata, her fascination with light and color began at an early age, when she first became acquainted with Books on impressionist color theory. These ideas would be tested out later by her when she out began painting in oils. It wasn’t until after she completed a degree in fine arts, with a strong grounding in art history, that she decided to paint exclusively in watercolors. “I felt they were better able to capture the interplay of color and light,” she says.

“Each moment our senses are flooded with light and life,” she writes, poetically. “I want to capture that radiance, that aliveness, and create a painting that makes you want to immerse yourself in it.” She has been exploring light and color in her work ever since.
