Marcy Day’s Sunny Illustrations Make Us Dream of Summer

Originally from sunny southern California, Illustrator Marcy Day seems to have soaked in a lot of sun. So much so, that her artwork looks as though it emits sunshine. Inspired by her travels around the world, as well as surfing, biking, and hiking, Day’s toolbox includes anything from gouache to watercolors, but mostly she paints digitally using her iPad.

Riding into the weekend like…

“I’ve been freelancing now from the road for a few years building up more and more client work,” said Day – an adventurer at heart – in an interview with Ballpitmag. Having studied at the University of California Santa Cruz where she earned a BFA in painting, she moved to Los Angeles only to quit her job six years later, and go on an adventure: first by bicycle, then by other means of transportation.

After two years of biking with her boyfriend (all the way from Vietnam to Turkey!), the two decided to travel with just their backpacks and work along the way. “I’ve painted everywhere from roadside coffee shops in Myanmar to yurts in Mongolia and the list keeps growing,” she writes on her website.

Much like her lifestyle, her illustrations are bright and uplifting, featuring other women doing adventurous things. We admit that scrolling through her Instagram page, we’re kinda jealous.
