Glass Artist Forges Enchanted Woods with Glass

There are many tools used in creating art. But have you ever seen intricate and beautifully crafted glass? Meet Amber Cowan, a sculptor and glass artist who creates complex designs with glass.

Her sculptures are based on three fairytale stories: Bridesmaid’s Search for the Dessert Rose, Bridesmaid’s Forest, and Grotto of the Chocolate Nymph. Cowan uses discarded glass from more than one century ago into sculptural paintings. These designs burst with natural forms.

Working with glass is no easy feat. The talented sculptor starts by curating the color needed for the piece. Next, she collects specific animals and figurines from vintage glassworks. The remaining glass is melted using a methodical flameworking process. This way, it creates a scenery that surrounds the figurines. Flowers, leaves, feather and small glistening pearls are also crafted to fill the botanical world.
