The Great Wave Off Kanagawa, aka The Great Wave, is one of the most famous models of Japanese art in the world. Inspired by art history accessories and origami paper, the artwork has been admired by many artists and designers everywhere. It was created by Hokusai Katsushika, one of the greatest Japanese artists of all time.
Recently, The Great Wave has made its way onto the facades of residential towers in Moscow, Russia. The new Etalon City development, which comprises nine buildings, is taking their architecture designs to another level. While the rectangular buildings will feature the silhouettes of Chicago, New York, Monaco, and Barcelona, the 6 square-shaped towers that are located along the highway will have The Great Wave splashed across their facades. The total area of the façade is nearly 60,000 square meters.
Moscow’s mayor Sergey Sobyanin posted on Twitter how the iconic image will be laid out across space. The project is under construction but the mayor already regarded the towers as a “landmark in the area.”
