Indian Artist is Taking Creativity to the Next Level With Her Paper Creations

We have seen numerous creative ways to do paper art, but Gunjan Aylawadi’s paper creations are something else. The works of this Indian-born artist look like they were made from fabric, but are in fact a result of hours of hard work with paper and threads. Aylawadi draws inspiration from different cultures and then creates complex mosaics that are really impressive to look at.

Worked on this fun little project by my fav Benja Harney @paperform for his group show #paperShrine! He sent blank masks to a bunch of creatives for each of us to come up with our own interpretations! (Exhibition opens 18th July at @lamingtondrive) . After a long time I chose colors & forms with abandon! Working on this guy made me think about how important embellishment is to me. Colors & surface detail that tease the senses & make you want to touch with all the cells on your fingertips…And symmetry just ties it all together neatly for me! I’m gonna have to explore this more…maybe with some different materials this time! This will be fun! . #gunjanaylawadi #paperArtist #symmetry #geometry

With 'Place for prayer' I really wanted to convey the feeling of being in a place that allows peaceful contemplation about life and self. I'm not a religious person but I love visiting temples, mosques and churches. There is something about the beautiful architecture, art, relief work, colours, smells, rituals and ceremonies that makes me think about who I want to be when I leave; life feels like it’ll be changed forever just because I’ve been there and had the chance to think about my role in the world. . .
