LA Artist Makes Stunning Drawings Inspired by Trees

Rachael Pease is an artist from Los Angeles who has an intriguing niche. Pease makes stunning drawings that are inspired by trees she sees and photographs in real life. Her works are characterized by attention to details and fantasy influences.

According to this talented artist, her drawing process includes revisiting the memory of her first encounter of the tree and capturing all the small details she noticed.

“As I draw, I weave reality with strings of fantasy and inspiration that I received from the actual trees at the location,” Pease said of her work. “In my studio, I revisit the trees and talk to them. I think about the roots breaking the dry soil in the ground or how a branch bends over one’s head to the sky. Trees provide me with a mirror to look inward.”

Pease’s drawings are usually framed in a circle or oval construction, which enables the viewer to experience the work as if they watch it through binoculars. It also helps focus the attention to the dominant characteristics of the tree, whether that is a labyrinth of strong roots or spectacular branches.
