The Japanese Manhole Cover Festival is a tribute to the artworks of manhole covers across Japan. This is a new festival which was held in Tokyo last Feb 1-3. Visitors have experienced everything from the actual manhole covers to manhole cover goodies such as cookies, collector cards, doormats and miniatures.
Several cities have designed their manhole covers since the ’80s, showcasing their unique local specialties. Today, more than 95% of the municipalities in Japan have amazing manhole cover designs.
