Jason Momoa Raises $31,000 in 45 Seconds by Throwing Axes

When Jason Momoa stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres show, he couldn’t stop his excitement about the important cause he’s been promoting and admitted that he had some pre-show jitters talking about it.

“I was very nervous because I came on to talk about something that I love dearly. Our mother earth and what I can do to help. I have a mission to get rid of single-use plastic water bottles. To clean up our oceans and land. To ask ourselves how we hydrate. Even though I may carry a canteen to try to reduce these plastics are still being made. All I’m trying to do is give the US an option. Do my part. The world needs changes and this is another option. Aluminum is the most recyclable packaging available, it’s infinitely recyclable. A can can be recycled and be on a shelf again in 60 days. A plastic bottle will never be a plastic bottle again,” he wrote on Instagram.

He told DeGeneres that his role in Aquaman had been part of his motivation to begin a sustainable water company called Mananalu. “I’m Aquaman now and I have all these little beautiful kids come up to me, and I never thought I’d be a role model. So I wanted to save the planet from single-use plastics.”

After the interview, it was time to throw some axes for charity.

“So here’s the thing, because we throw footballs and baseballs, everyone kind of turns it like this,” Momoa explained to DeGeneres, demonstrating the right way to throw an axe. “It has to go straight over your head … it has to go right with the grain.”

Within 45 seconds, Momoa raised $31,000 for the beach cleanup charity called Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii. Check out the video below.
