Robert Nava’s Absurd Paintings Will Win Your Heart

Robert Nava is a painter based in Brooklyn, New York, whose amazing paintings we decided to share with you today. We love his works for their childish character, applied to subjects such as primordial monsters and myths. There is a perfect balance between seriousness and childlike play in his art, and that is truly refreshing.

Before opening his own art studio in Brooklyn, Nava graduated from Yale University. He says that he draws his inspiration from looking at ancient art such as Sumerian, Egyptian or Mayan creations. He says that old artworks have a big impact and carry a lot of mystery. His works are focused on creating new myths that will amaze and entertain, full of monsters, angels and ghosts.

His first idol was Van Gogh, an artist whose sheer fearlessness, as well as color application techniques, left Nava fascinated. The best art advice he ever received was from his first-grade art teacher: “there are no mistakes.”

Just one glance at Nava’s art will show you how freely he experiments with colors and patterns, and how much effort he puts into conserving the child in him. His works can be found on Instagram, where 24k people follow his artistic progress. Check out some of them in the pictures below!
