Russian Graphic Designer Draws Dark and Mysterious Surreal Creatures

Valentina Asadova is a Russian artist who turned her two passions into one. Fond of psychology and painting, the 34-year-old graphic designer was doing an assignment to create the layout of the book, Synchronicity by Carl Jung, when she fell in love with the scientist’s work. This inspired her to make the mysterious illustrations she’s been working on, and you have to check it out.

By painting in her free time, Asadova is finding a way for personal growth. Although she doesn’t have a big following on social media, the talented artist has been exhibiting her work since 2016. Admirers from Moscow and St. Petersburg had the opportunity to see her creations.

Her inspiration comes from a project she worked on for Carl Jung. She shared with Bored Panda, that reading his work allowed her painting to “capture the images that I encountered on the path of inner knowledge”. Asadova further explained that, “The paradoxical nature of the psyche and the binary of archetypal forces are the subjects of research in artistic work.”

Her illustrations are filled with dark colors and strange creatures dominate the paintings. “A certain minimalism of the atmosphere is due to the abundance of black, which acts as the main medium, symbolizing the nature of the unknown, from which the most bizarre fantasies are born,” she wrote in her Saatchi Art profile.
