Adam Allsuch Boardman’s Colorful Illustrations Are a Must-see

Growing up, artist Adam Allsuch Boardman has been surrounded by art, so his artistic journey came naturally. He got his Bachelor’s degree at Leeds Art University and says that he wants to create art that is clear and provides some quantifiable illumination to the viewer.

“The pictures I draw usually conform to the principles of ‘ligne claire’; that means I like clean, consistent lines and a strict color palette. I sometimes find it easier to define what I draw, by the limitations I apply to myself, such as avoiding texture, gradient or feathered lines,” the artist shared in an interview for Ballpit. He added that his work has been largely influenced by Hergé, a Belgian cartoonist, and Martin Handford, an English author and illustrator.

Before he begins to draw, the Leeds-based artist does a lot of research which may include things like corkboards pinned with imagery, spreadsheets, maps, piles of books and sketchbooks.

“The main motivator behind my work is the process itself, I am perhaps fastidious to an obsessive degree and enjoy getting knee-deep in a project until I am completely lost in the figurative swamp of facts, images and ideas.”
