Amazing Carved Wood Sculptures that Seem Bendable and Stretchable

Phil Young is a woodwork artist that creates an illusion with wood, making it seem bendable and stretchable. All his works focus on a single piece of wood which has been carved to look squashed or twisted. He uses nails or metal rings to hold them in place.

The pieces are strung together carefully, and each raw material is shaped and grained until the work is finished.

Young evokes a shocking degree of emotions even though his work is non-representational. The pieces appear to be under pressure and this is what makes it unique. Young is inspired different places where beauty cannot be found such as diseases, surgery and wrinkled skin and attempts to beautify them.
