Artist Combines Cut-Outs and Famous Landmarks to Create Fun Scenes

Rich McCor is a London-based artist who uses the world around him to draw inspiration for his artworks. McCor, better known as papeboyo on Instagram, combines paper cut-outs with famous landmarks around the world in order to create intriguing and fun scenes.

With just a small intervention from the artist and the right angle, the Statue of Liberty becomes a weight lifter, while Stonehenge becomes a playground for King Kong. McCor also uses his works to make pop culture references or to honor his favorite artists.

The funny thing about making your hobby your career is that you realise you need to pick up a new hobby- although that's pretty tough because you're putting all your time and energy into making your new career work. Having worked for myself a couple of years now I've learnt to make time for new hobbies – hobbies like skiing, something I never did as a kid and really want to indulge in more. It's not exactly a cheap hobby though so if someone asked 'what would you do if you won £10k every month?' Back in 1998 France loaned Japan their Statue of Liberty (from it's home in Paris) to celebrate Franco-Japanese ties. The Statue went back home in 1999 but it was so popular that a replica was made so now she's here permanently in Tokyo. There's also a Statue of Liberty in Las Vegas which, in 2010, the US Postal Service mistook for the real one in New York and printed on it's stamps. However it's not an exact replica so the artist behind the sculpture, believing his statue's features to be different enough, sued the US Postal Service for illegally using his design. A federal court agreed with him and ordered the post office pay him $3.5m in compensation!
