Check These Odd-looking Sculptures Out

Erwin Wurm, a 66-year-old Austrian contemporary artist creates unique sculptures you might find strange at first.

With his work, he tries to evoke the absurdity found in mundane actions of everyday life. When creating his art, Wurm says, he creates his sculptures intuitively believing that “it is better to go where the material and the ideas lead me, rather than to follow any predetermined strategy.”

“The common thread is the idea of the human body and its relation to sculptural concerns,” the artist shared in an interview with Design Broom. “The One Minute Forever sculptures, for example, address ideas around time and permanence associated with sculpture. There are additionally abstracted forms meant to translate realistic bodily parts, for example, tennis balls which serve as a stand-in for eyes.”

Living and working in Vienna and Limberg, Wurm’s work has been exhibited in galleries worldwide and published in various media. He also shares images on his Instagram account, so if you got interested, just keep on scrolling!
