GoT’s Latest Episode, Brightens Up So Fans Can See the Details They’ve Missed

Almost everyone who has watched Game of Thrones’ latest episode has a hard time watching the scenes because of its dark cinematography.

So some fans of the HBO series decided to brighten up critical scenes to show how epic the war was. Youtube account Hivemind really did an excellent job in not only brightening up the scenes but also comparing it to the original version side by side, to highlight the changes in the viewing experience.

The Battle Of Winterfell wanted to convey about the horrors of war and how it can be difficult to see your enemies. The Night King attacked at night and he brought a snowstorm with him, so the show’s decision to go all natural was understandable.

Fabian Wagner, the cinematographer for the latest episode has also explained the reason behind the dark setting.

“The showrunners decided that this had to be a dark episode. We’d seen so many battle scenes over the years – to make it truly impactful and to care for the characters, you have to find a unique way of portraying the story … Another look would have been wrong. Everything we wanted people to see is there … Personally, I don’t have to always see what’s going on because it’s more about the emotional impact,” he told WIRED.

“Game of Thrones is a cinematic show and therefore you have to watch it like you’re at a cinema: in a darkened room,” Wagner continued. “If you watch a night scene in a brightly-lit room then that won’t help you see the image properly.”
